Top 5 Health Benefits of Eating Peaches

I had no idea Florida ever grew Peaches.

One day my friend calls me and ask If I would like to go peach picking, of course, I couldn’t pass it up as I love to pick my own fruits and veggies. We ventured out into the country and here we arrive at rows and rows of peach trees, what a beauty. We grab our buckets and here we are like two little girls in a candy store. The further into the orchard we got the nicer and bigger the peaches were. We couldn’t resist eating a few peaches while we picked them off the trees.

While speaking to the gentleman that sells the “you pick peaches” by the bucket, it was interesting knowing that these orchards all started as his daughter’s college project. She enlisted many friends and family members with lots of land, to plant these peach trees and now a couple years later they have tons of peaches. If you live in central Florida or travel to these areas at this time of the year, you can go pick your own as well while they are in season. 

After my first batch of picking, those peaches were gone in 4 days.  I went back for another round of picking, this time picking 3 more buckets. Bringing home all these gorgeous colorful fruits, I had to look into the many wonderful benefits of eating peaches and here are my top 5 favorite ones.

1 – Get healthy glowing skin

Eating one large peach a day can keep your skin glowing and flawless. Also by rubbing the peaches directly on your skin, it helps to get rid of dark circles and wrinkles.

Peaches area great source of vitamins A and C, which are highly essential for skin health. Vitamin A provides moisture to the skin, which improves the skin’s texture making it soft and supple. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage.

For a great facial mask smash a peach in a bowl, mix in some honey and lather it on your face. Let it set for 30 minutes, remove with a warm cloth and wash your face. You can feel the tightness in your skin.

2 – Diuretic effect in the body

Peaches act as a light laxative, which helps to cleanse the kidney and bladder. It is also good to remove worms form the intestines and will calm an upset stomach.

You can make a delicious peach tea by cutting up a peach, smashing it in a sauce pan, pour one cup of water and bring to a boil for about 5 minutes. Pour it in a cup and sip or you can run it through a strainer so you just have the liquid. I like to consume the chunks. If you would like a sweeter taste, add some honey.

3 – Healthy eyes and vision

 Peaches contain a good amount of Beta-carotene, vitamin A and C, which is great for eye health. Eating this wonder fruit regularly can improve your vision by increasing the blood circulation throughout your body. It also nourishes and protects the retinas in your eyes from radical damage. This too helps to prevent cataracts and age related muscular degeneration.

4 – Weight Loss

Who wouldn’t want to eat a fruit that is fat free. Peaches contains and average of about 50 calories depending on the size of the fruit. Even though it has a high amount of sugar, be mindful this is completely all natural and therefore does not have an adverse effect on your health.

If you want to lose those pesky pounds or just maintain your weight, make sure to stock up on peaches. Eating one peach as a snack will help to curve your appetite.

Try cutting up some peaches and mixing blueberries with a little bit of vanilla yogurt for a delightful breakfast.

5 – Cancer prevention

As we look around us we seam to have many loved ones that have had cancer or died from it. Our priority is to take care of our bodies and prevent us from many of these deadly diseases out there. Peaches have antioxidants levels to rival the super fruit Blueberry, and help prevent cancerous cell growth.
